This past weekend, Loretta and I went out for a hike to Ka’ena Point. We originally planned for a morning hike, but we decided to go in the mid-afternoon instead; it takes a while to drive out there from town, and we just didn’t want to leave so early in the morning.
There are two ways to hike to Ka’ena Point — from the west side of the island, or from the north side. We chose the west side, since Loretta had already done the north portion on a previous hike. The hike was quite easy, but it was also quite hot on the way to Ka’ena Point. At the end, we were greeted by a rainbow and what looked to be an imminent downpour. Fortunately, we just got a small sprinkle, which helped to cool us off for a bit. The temperature on the way back was nice as the sun was setting.
The first two shots were taken by Loretta while I took a break in the shade.
The last shot really shows the colors of Hawaii’s sunsets. Loretta can attest that the colors are quite accurate, as we compared the back of my camera with what we saw with our eyes.
It’s days like these that make me wonder why I don’t go out more often.
What did you do this weekend? Feel free to comment below and let me know. 🙂
Still can’t get over how pretty the sky was…love how you captured the spectrum of colors!
Yo Kevin,
Great shots! I did the Kaena Point hike too, but we drove to the AF radar station, parked and hiked “toward but not to” the North Shore. Great, huh?
Is that really Loretta running? That means her ankle is totally healed, huh?
BTW, little known fact. I put a huge Nortel SL1 up at that AF radar station some TWENTY years ago.
Catch you guys on a subsequent hike.
Ciao, Chuck
Thanks, Chuck! She’s not totally healed, but getting better. 🙂
Hi Kevin, I came across these pictures while Googling “Ka’ena Point Weddings”. My fiance and I got engaged at Ka’ena Point and would love to get married there or nearby. Have you photographed any weddings there? We are planning a wedding in Oahu and will probably need a photographer too! Anyway, thanks for sharing these. I still get a little teary eyed when looking at photos from our hike where he proposed. These definitely bring those memories back! ~Isabelle from Seattle, WA
